It's More Than "Just Stress"

  • Do anxious thoughts follow you everywhere — even when nothing is obviously wrong?
  • Do you lie awake replaying conversations, catastrophizing about the future, or bracing for disaster?
  • Have you started avoiding certain situations, people, or places because the anxiety feels too overwhelming?
  • Does your heart race, your chest tighten, or your mind go blank in moments of stress?
  • Do you know logically there's nothing to fear — but feel completely unable to stop?

Anxiety is far more than stress. When anxiety is running the show, it shapes every decision — what you say yes to, what you avoid, how you show up at work, in relationships, and in your own skin. The mental chatter is relentless. The body is always braced for something. And the exhaustion of living on high alert can be profound.

Anxiety often has deep roots: early experiences that taught your nervous system the world isn't safe, relational patterns that reinforced self-doubt, or painful early experiences that left a lasting imprint on how you respond to threat. Talk therapy alone sometimes scratches the surface without reaching those roots — which is why I use approaches that work at the level where anxiety actually lives.

Anxiety therapy in Phoenix AZ — calm and clarity

Anxiety Is One of the Most Common Human Experiences — And One of the Most Treatable

More than 40 million adults in the United States experience anxiety disorders, making it the most common mental health concern in the country. Anxiety does not mean something is fundamentally wrong with you — it means your nervous system learned to protect you in ways that have outlived their usefulness.

With the help of a skilled therapist, the nervous system can learn new patterns. The automatic fear responses that once dominated your life can be retrained. Many of my clients describe a profound sense of freedom when anxiety no longer controls their choices — and that freedom is genuinely available to you.

Anxiety Therapy That Goes Deeper Than Coping Skills

I use a combination of Emotionally Focused Therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to address anxiety at its source — not just manage it at the surface. When anxiety is tied to past experiences or attachment wounds, EMDR can help your brain process and release what's been stuck, often achieving in a relatively short time what years of traditional talk therapy couldn't reach.

In our sessions, we'll identify the specific patterns, triggers, and underlying beliefs driving your anxiety. You'll learn to recognize the early warning signs in your body and mind, and interrupt the anxiety spiral before it takes over. More importantly, we'll address the roots so that over time, those triggers lose their power.

I've worked with anxiety for more than 20 years — helping clients who felt trapped by panic attacks, social anxiety, generalized worry, and anxiety intertwined with difficult experiences. My approach is tailored to your specific experience, not a one-size-fits-all program.

I also offer telehealth sessions for clients throughout Arizona, which many people with anxiety find particularly accessible — no commute, no waiting room, therapy from the safety of your own space.

Questions About Anxiety Therapy

Many anxiety treatments focus on cognitive techniques or coping strategies — which can be helpful but often don't reach the deeper roots of chronic anxiety, especially when trauma or attachment patterns are involved. My use of EMDR, IFS and emotionally focused approaches targets anxiety at the neurological and emotional level, not just the thought level. Many clients who felt "therapy resistant" experience real breakthroughs with this approach.

Medication can be a valuable tool for some people, and I'm happy to coordinate care with a prescriber if that's part of your plan. However, medication addresses symptoms, not sources. Research consistently shows that therapy produces more lasting results for anxiety than medication alone — and the combination of the two, when appropriate, can be powerful. Ultimately, you deserve to feel better because your nervous system has genuinely changed, not because you're dependent on a daily pill to manage it.

This is a valid concern, and it's one I take seriously. I don't push you to revisit painful material before you're ready, and I pace every session carefully based on how you're doing. EMDR works by helping your brain process what's been stuck — and while that process can bring up difficult feelings, we move through it together at a pace that feels manageable. I always follow your lead, and we can slow down or adjust at any point.
